DANIEL AGGER ON RETURN TO LIVERPOOL

Danish soccer star Daniel Agger says he is excited to return to Anfield as he teams up with Liverpool legends against Real Madrid legends.

The retired 32-year old defender returns to play for Liverpool FC Foundation on Saturday.

Agger, who has the club in his blood and on his skin – considering that he inked the abbreviation of the club’s ‘YNWA’ anthem across his knuckles –, played for almost nine years at the Merseyside before he exited the team after a brief stint at his boyhood club Brondby where he joined from in 2006.

“I’m always happy to be back here. It’s really an experience. It’s so difficult to explain what being here means to me, because I can never really put the feeling into words,” the passionate Agger told Goal.

“Quickly, it was like I belonged, and the longer you’re in a place that suits you, the more it gets under your skin and becomes a part of you. The people, the place, just everything about it felt right, which is why I stayed here for almost nine years,” Agger added. Continue reading “DANIEL AGGER ON RETURN TO LIVERPOOL”

Aitor Karanka happy his Angry words helped Team Perform

Aitor Karanka reveals that he gave his boys a real mouthful when they came back to the change room in the mid-break of the Sheffield Wednesday game and he was glad that his angry words made some impact on their body language as they showed tremendous aggression when the play resumed.

One particular reason of Karanka’s frustration was the Smoggies’ inability to test the skills of an inexperienced shot-stopper Joe Wildsmith whom Sheffield had fielded for the game.

Wildsmith is no. 3 in the pecking order of Sheffield and it was the first appearance of the season for him. So, Karanka wanted some pressure to be created on him, but, it was not happening as Middlesbrough was not getting any of the shots close to the post.

The young man was having an easy day between the sticks and Karanka didn’t want him to get away like that. So, he reminded his team of Wildsmith’s inexperience and urged them to try and get him in the thick of things and try and see if he had got sufficient potential or not. DAVID MOYES HAILS VAN AANHOLT

Sunderland manager David Moyes has hailed Patrick van Aanholt, saying that the defender can be the best in the English Premier League.

The Dutchman had been sterling in his role for Sunderland this campaign. He was dropped for the Premier League match against West Bromwich Albion but the talented player scored a goal to earn the team a point when introduced later on.

“His goal record is fantastic for the amount of chances we create. We need more though from elsewhere,” Moyes said of the player.
“The likes of Pat – who does come up with one or two goals. But at the moment the development for Pat would be to become a top left back – that is what we want him to be. All the best left backs are attacking; you look at Danny Rose, Leighton Baines, Ashley Cole over the years.

“They have all been great attacking left backs. There is no reason why Pat shouldn’t try an achieve that,” Moyes added. Van Aanholt can shown superior offensive capabilities one week, then in subsequent games he could be embarrassing with his poor defensive play. He is that player that can be the best and worst at the same time.

Mourinho to give chances to players

New Manchester United manager is prepared to give players such as Juan Mata, MarouaneFellaini, and Daley Blind chances during the pre-season to prove themselves.

Indeed, the Portuguese manager is keen to build a team that will be able to challenge for trophies next season and before trying to get new faces in the team, he would want to give chances to the current players.

Many pundits thought that Jose Mourinho would be keen to get rid of Juan Mata since he was the one that allowed him to move to Manchester United from Chelsea. It is believed that the manager wants to give him an opportunity to prove himself first before deciding on his future.

This will be good news for Juan Mata as he wanted to have reassurances from Jose Mourinho that he will still form part of the team. However, it is believed that player will spend more time on the bench as there is no guarantee that he will form part of the first team. Indeed, Jose Mourinho believes that Juan Mata is only good when it comes to attacking and may be a weak link when it comes to defending.
