Ritchie and Lascelles both picked up their fifth bookingsof the season during the league encounter with Arsenal at the weekend and they will serve a mandatory one-game ban against Norwich City as a result. The two defensive players were in the starting XI for the Arsenal game which ended in a 2-0 defeat for their team thanks to the goals from England international Bukayo Saka and Brazilian substitute Gabriel Martinelli.

Newcastle United frustrated hosts Arsenal for the most parts in the first half as they played out a goalless draw though Gabonese international Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang should have given the Gunners the lead with the best chance of the game four minutes before the interval. With the goal gaping, the Arsenal skipper hit the post when it was moredifficult for him to miss.

Arsenal upped the tempo in the second half and Newcastle United could not cope with it thereby leading to a comfortable win for the Gunners. Arsenal Academy graduate Saka finished off a flowing move to give his team the lead on 56 minutes before he had to go off with a knock.  His replacement, Gabriel Martinelli then scored the second Arsenal goal midway through the second half off the assist from Japanese defender Takehiro Tomiyasu to wrap up the game for the North London club.  Martinelli scored his first goal of the season around a minute after coming on for the injured Saka.
